Zero-emission deliveries surge for IKEA

IKEA Australia has made significant strides in its transition to zero-emissions, with 65 per cent of truck deliveries now being fulfilled by electric vehicles — up from just 5 per cent in 2022.

According to the company, it remains committed to achieving 90 per cent zero-emissions deliveries by 2025.

That commitment covers all of its metropolitan orders, and the company will keep working towards full implementation as technology advances.

IKEA Australia stated that it has invested $4.5 million in a national charging infrastructure network to support its transport partners, including ANC Delivers, Kings Transport, and All Purpose Transport.

The company is also calling for targeted policy support from state and federal governments to facilitate the electrification of delivery fleets.

The initiative is part of a broader commitment by Ingka Group, IKEA’s largest retail operator, which has recently revised its global timeline.

The group now aims to achieve more than 90 per cent zero-emission home deliveries by 2028, adjusting its original 2025 target to reflect operational realities and technological constraints.

The global furniture giant’s EV push comes as the NSW Government announced plans in May 2024 for 671 new charging points across the state.

Meanwhile, in January, the Federal Government pledged $60 million for EV charging infrastructure and more than $80 million in collaboration with state and territory governments to help decarbonise heavy transport.
