Clean energy development in Victoria continues to gather pace, with Yanara appointing Gamuda Australia as project delivery partner for the early contractor involvement (ECI) phase of the Mortlake Energy Hub.
Located in Victoria’s southwest, the Mortlake Energy Hub will combine a 450 megawatt (MW) solar farm with a 600 MW / 2400 megawatt-hour (MWh) battery energy storage system (BESS), delivering firm, dispatchable renewable electricity to support around 200,000 homes each year.
Developed across a 1060-hectare site, the project will connect directly into the existing Mortlake Terminal Station, strengthening grid reliability while avoiding the need for new overhead transmission lines. This approach is expected to improve energy resilience in the region while minimising environmental and community impacts.
Under the ECI appointment, Gamuda Australia will lead project design through to completion, working closely with Yanara to progress council approvals, manage key procurement activities, and oversee critical construction works packages. The partnership is intended to de-risk delivery, optimise design outcomes and position the project for efficient execution once construction commences.
During peak construction, the Mortlake Energy Hub is expected to support around 200 regional jobs, delivering flow-on economic benefits for local contractors, suppliers and service providers. The project is also expected to contribute broader social and economic value through long-term investment in regional clean energy infrastructure.

For Gamuda Australia, the Mortlake Energy Hub adds to its growing portfolio in Australia’s energy transition, reinforcing its role in delivering large-scale, complex infrastructure projects across the renewables sector. The project also aligns with broader state and national objectives to expand renewable generation, firm capacity and grid-scale storage as coal-fired generation retires.
Once operational, the integrated solar and battery facility will contribute to smoothing variable renewable output, supporting system stability and helping Victoria progress toward a cleaner, more resilient energy future.
