Origin Energy has secured a full 1460MW transmission access allocation from EnergyCo for its proposed 1.5GW Yanco Delta Wind Farm in southern New South Wales.

The project, located near Jerilderie in the NSW Government’s South West Renewable Energy Zone, marks a major milestone for one of Australia’s largest onshore wind developments.

It spans 33,000 hectares and is now one step closer to a final investment decision, expected in FY2027.

With grid access confirmed, Origin will move ahead with environmental approvals, detailed design, and appointing construction and turbine partners. A comprehensive community engagement and benefit-sharing program is also underway.

“Securing transmission access rights is another important milestone for the Yanco Delta Wind Farm development project,” said Origin CEO Frank Calabria. “It recognises the important role it can play in delivering renewable energy to help meet demand in NSW.”

The wind farm is part of Origin’s broader ambition to add 4–5 GW of renewables and storage to its portfolio. This includes large-scale batteries under construction at Eraring and Mortlake, and wind developments such as Skye Ridge and Northern Tablelands Wind Farms in the New England REZ.

Origin acquired the Yanco Delta project from Belgium-based Virya Energy in May 2024, paying $125 million upfront, with an additional $175 million triggered by the securing of transmission rights.

The company is considering capital-efficient financing options and expects to contract for most or all of the project’s energy output.
