The Western Australian Government is advancing its green initiatives in the education sector, with Education Minister Tony Buti announcing that 117 public schools will receive clean energy upgrades under the Schools Clean Energy Technology Fund.
This latest round of funding, the fourth in the program, will see 45 regional and 72 metropolitan schools benefit from solar photovoltaic systems and LED lighting installations, aimed at reducing energy costs and environmental impact.
The $44.6 million fund, spread over four years, now has participants of 373 schools across the state receiving support for renewable energy enhancements.
Minister Buti said this program is a great opportunity for students to learn about the benefits of renewable energy.
“We continue to invest in clean energy solutions and work toward a more sustainable future,” he said.
The Schools Clean Energy Technology Fund builds on previous initiatives, including the Solar Schools program and Synergy’s Virtual Power Plant Project, and aligns with the Western Australian Climate Policy by advancing sustainable practices in public institutions.
Energy Minister Reece Whitby said installing rooftop solar and upgrading to LED lighting are some of the easiest ways Western Australians can reduce their energy use and save on their power bills.
“This fund hasn’t just helped lower costs and emissions for our State’s public schools – it’s also made them an example that households and businesses throughout WA can follow,” Whitby said.
