Surging solar battery uptake

Nearly 8000 solar batteries have been installed across New South Wales since the launch of the State Government’s battery incentive program, helping thousands of households and businesses cut energy costs.

NSW Climate and Energy Minister Penny Sharpe said the scheme is delivering significant savings while supporting the state’s clean energy transition.

“NSW has installed more than 7800 solar batteries since the launch of our incentive, reducing energy bills for thousands of homes and businesses across the state,” she said.

With more than a third of NSW homes already equipped with rooftop solar, the initiative is enabling more residents to store solar power generated during the day for use around the clock.

“Now we’re helping thousands connect a battery so they can store solar energy when the sun is up and use it around the clock,” Sharpe said.

The program offers upfront discounts on battery installation costs for eligible homeowners and businesses through government-accredited suppliers and installers.

A typical household with an $1850 annual electricity bill could save around $1500 per year by installing solar and battery storage.

More than half of the battery installations so far have been outside of Sydney, reaching regional areas from Byron to Bega and as far west as Broken Hill.
