Queensland’s government-owned Stanwell has inked a major deal with Genex Power Limited to expand its clean energy portfolio.
The agreement centres on two key projects: the Bulli Creek Solar Farm, located 125 kilometres southwest of Toowoomba, and the Kidston Solar Farm in Far North Queensland.
Bulli Creek Solar Farm, co-developed by Genex and J-Power, is set to become Australia’s largest grid-connected solar facility.
Under a 15-year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA), Stanwell will acquire up to 550 megawatt (MW) from the 775MW / 2234 gigawatts-hour (GWh) Bulli Creek Stage 1 Solar Farm.
This project forms part of a larger multi-stage development at the Bulli Creek Clean Energy Park, which aims to incorporate up to 2GW of solar and large-scale battery storage.
The Bulli Creek project is expected to create up to 800 construction jobs when work commences in early 2025, with an additional 20 operational positions once completed.
In a separate agreement, Stanwell Asset Maintenance Company (SAMCo) has secured a five-year contract to provide operations and maintenance (O&M) services for Genex’s 50MW Kidston Solar Farm.
This deal will create four permanent roles at the site, supported by a traveling service technician team.
SAMCo’s responsibilities will include managing electricity operations, conducting maintenance and repairs, and ensuring the facility’s overall upkeep.
Launched in November 2023, SAMCo aims to offer O&M services to renewable energy projects across Queensland, creating new training and employment opportunities.
The company is set to commence operations at Kidston in late October 2024.
