Solar Nerds unveils key trends and winners in Australia’s solar industry for 2023

Solar Nerds, Australia’s leading solar industry research organisation, has released its annual summary, identifying industry leaders and trends in 2023.

The comprehensive report includes a detailed analysis of the nation, as well as a state by state breakdown of installed system metrics and highlighting key players within the industry.

National overview:

According to Solar Nerds, Australians installed 333,076 solar systems in 2023, generating more than than 3 million kW of renewable energy.

In the Sub 100 kW category, Sunboost emerged as the winner with an impressive installation of 10,504 systems and a total volume of 95,945 kW, securing a notable 3.1 per cent of market share.

Sunboost continued its dominance in the 0-15 kW segment, boasting 10,181 systems and an installed capacity of 88,353 kW, capturing 2.85 per cent of the market.

For the 15-40 kW category, Origin finished on top, installing 286 systems with a cumulative capacity of 7,153 kW, claiming 0.23 per cent of the market.

AGL secured victory in the 40-100 kW category, installing 122 systems totalling 10,970 kW and securing 0.35 per cent of the market.

Formbay Trading stood out in the small-scale technology certificates (STC) trading sector, dominating with an impressive 704,577 kW.

State by state breakdown:

New South Wales: Sunboost emerged as the champion in Sub 100 kW, 0-15 kW, and 15-40 kW, with installations totalling 48,306, 43,861 and 4,051 kW, respectively. AGL claimed victory in the 40-100 kW category with an installation of 3,450 kW.

Queensland: Origin secured the top position in Sub 100 kW, 0-15 kW, and 15-40 kW categories with installations of 25,503, 22,266 and 2466 kW, respectively. Springers Solar claimed victory in the 40-100 kW category with an installation of 2,041 kW.

Victoria: Origin dominated in Sub 100 kW, 0-15 kW, and 15-40 kW categories, with installations of 15,741, 12,789 and 1,795 kW, respectively. Energy Aware emerged as the winner in the 40-100 kW category, generating 5,614 kW.

Western Australia: Perth Solar Force dominated in Sub 100 kW and 0-15 kW categories, with installations of 17,973 and 17,499 kW, respectively. Solargain secured victory in the 15-40 kW category with an installation of 1,146 kW, while HFM Asset Management led the 40-100 kW category with 983 kW.

South Australia: Go Sunny Solar led installations in Sub 100 kW and 0-15 kW categories, totalling 11,955 kW and 10,975 kW, respectively. Solar Wholesalers claimed victory in the 15-40 kW category with an installation of 1,405 kW, while AGL triumphed in the 40-100 kW market with 759 kW.

Australian Capital Territory: Solargain emerged as the winner in Sub 100 kW and 0-15 kW systems, with installations of 3,804 and 3,635 kW, respectively. Solar Forever claimed victory in the 15-40 kW market with an installation of 402 kW, while IES led the 40-100 kW category with 184 kW.

Tasmania: A total of 48,014 kW of solar and 5,627 systems were installed in 2023.

Northern Territory: A total of 14,584 kW of solar and 1,233 systems were installed.
