Safety Recall: Single-phase energy controllers

The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) has issued a national electrical safety recall for Sigenergy’s single-phase 8, 10 and 12 kilowatt energy controllers. These products currently used by some retailers participating in the Small-scale Renewable Energy Scheme (SRES).

According to Sigenergy, a small number of units have exhibited faults, with around 100 inverters affected. The company is working closely with the ACCC, state and territory electrical safety regulators, and accredited installers to identify and rectify issues quickly. The company has reiterated that consumer safety remains its priority.

All impacted consumers will receive a free replacement product featuring an updated AC (Alternating Current) plug. Retailers or Sigenergy Australia service partners will contact customers directly to coordinate the replacement process.

Under the SRES, battery systems must meet Clean Energy Council (CEC) and state and territory electrical safety requirements to be eligible for small-scale technology certificates (STC). The CEC has now added Sigenergy’s updated model, featuring the revised AC plug, to its approved product list.

Regulators emphasise that strict product and installer accreditation standards apply, and any system eligible for government support must be installed in accordance with state and territory electrical safety rules.

The Clean Energy Regulator has also been conducting inspections of solar batteries installed since 1 July to ensure ongoing compliance.

The Regulator is working closely with Sigenergy to process STC applications linked to affected systems and will publish regular updates on its website as further information becomes available.
