A new poll has revealed popular support for rooftop solar power among Australians across the political spectrum.
A nationally representative survey, commissioned by the Climate Council via YouGov, found that over 80 per cent of households with rooftop solar panels would recommend the technology to family and friends.
This highlights the real benefits millions of Aussie households are experiencing from going solar.
Support for rooftop solar transcends party lines, with 79 per cent of Coalition voters who have installed panels saying they would recommend it, along with 84 per cent of Labor voters and 87 per cent of Greens voters.
The poll also showed strong interest in getting rooftop solar among those who don’t currently have it installed.
A full 73 per cent of respondents without panels said they would like to get rooftop solar in the future.
This included 64 per cent of Coalition voters, 80 per cent of Labor supporters, and 93 per cent of Greens voters expressing a desire for the technology.
Beyond households, the survey found robust support for policies promoting greater uptake of solar power and battery storage.
Outlined in the survey, 74 per cent backed installing rooftop solar on all social housing properties, with 73 per cent supporting governments providing financial incentives to help businesses install rooftop solar and storage systems.
In addition, 72 per cent were in favour of governments installing community batteries that can provide reliable, affordable, and clean power around the clock.
Climate Council CEO Amanda McKenzie said Australians love the bill-busting benefits of rooftop solar and strongly support government action to expand it.
“Supercharging rooftop solar is a triple win for Aussie businesses and families. It slashes power bills, cuts climate pollution, and powers our clean energy workforce,” she said.
Climate Councillor, Associate Professor Tim Nelson said Australians can extend the bill savings to millions more homes and businesses now with the help of rooftop solar, community batteries and other technology like smart hot water systems.
“Rolling out more rooftop solar is the biggest opportunity we have right now to keep building on Australia’s clean energy momentum. It should be at the top of the agenda for all parties during the next term of parliament, and we can get the ball rolling with clear commitments today,” he said.
