Australia’s residential rooftop photovoltaic uptake is forging ahead at record pace, with the first half of 2023 seeing 1.4GW of small-scale solar added to the grid.
Despite a slowing in investment for large-scale renewable energy in Australia, the nation’s households are picking up the slack.
According to the Clean Energy Regulator, rooftop solar generated more than a quarter of Australia’s total renewable energy in 2022, with record growth so far in 2023 leading to estimates of total capacity of 3.2GW being added by the end of the year.
The Clean Energy Regulator says households’ PV systems are also increasing in size, with the average home upsizing to 9.3kW.
The uptake of air-source heat pumps for heating and cooling homes has also surged 70 per cent in the past year.
