EnergyCo has launched a competitive procurement process to appoint a network operator for the New England Renewable Energy Zone (REZ).
The New England REZ is a key infrastructure project designed to support renewable energy development in New South Wales.
The network operator will be responsible for designing, constructing, financing, operating, and maintaining the transmission infrastructure necessary for the REZ.
Over 400 industry professionals attended an industry briefing on Thursday, 27 March, where EnergyCo outlined the details of the procurement process.
The briefing, which is part of EnergyCo’s ongoing engagement with the industry, marked the beginning of the search for a partner to manage the delivery of this vital project.
The procurement process began with the release of a call for registrations of interest in March 2025, inviting potential operators to express their intent to participate in the process.
Following this, participants will have the opportunity to submit an expression of interest and will be invited to engage in the request for proposal (RFP) stage, which is expected to occur in October 2025.
This collaborative approach is aimed at ensuring a sustainable and efficient rollout of the necessary transmission infrastructure.
EnergyCo said it aims to foster greater market certainty, improve productivity, and ensure value-for-money outcomes throughout the procurement process.
Structured feedback opportunities will be provided during the EOI and RFP stages, allowing market participants to share insights and inform the development of high-quality proposals.
