NT’s Power and Water achieves solar milestone

Power and Water Corporation have celebrated a milestone as the first large-scale solar generator on the Darwin-Katherine electricity network to achieve 100 per cent commercial dispatch.

With RAAF Darwin solar generator brought online safely, Power and Water said this achievement marked the successful collaboration between Defence and the company.

According to Power and Water, the network owner and system operator, it upheld a commitment to ensuring new electricity network connections adhered to standards, guaranteeing a reliable supply to customers.

Djuna Pollard, Power and Water CEO, claimed safety was a core value for Power and Water.

“For us, that was the safety of our people and our customers – and it was also the safety and reliability of the services that we delivered to Territorians,” Pollard said.

The Darwin-Katherine electricity network has five large-scale solar generators, each undergoing testing and commissioning before achieving full commercial dispatch.

Power and Water said it actively supported proponents in advancing their projects, facilitating negotiations for partial dispatch to manage network conditions for stability and security.

“We were pleased to be working closely with Defence on other renewables projects, as well as a number of other large-scale solar generator projects in the Northern Territory, and looked forward to continuing this collaborative relationship,” Pollard said.
