The MacIntyre Wind Farm Precinct (the Precinct) will host two large wind farms about 40km west of Warwick: MacIntyre Wind Farm and Karara Wind Farm.
“These turbine blades are being installed at MacIntyre Wind Farm, to help generate power for up to 700,000 homes,” shared Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk on her LinkedIn.
“We’re helping deliver more renewable energy projects across Queensland as part of our Energy and Jobs Plan.
“These projects are driving down emissions and supporting more high paying, secure jobs for Queenslanders.”
The wind farm will have a combined capacity of 1026 megawatts and is set to provide up to 400 jobs during construction, with up to an additional 240 jobs for the construction of the 64km transmission line, and 14 fulltime jobs once in operation.
Queensland’s publicly owned clean energy generator, CleanCo, announced it will build, own, and operate the $250 million 100 kilowatts Karara Wind Farm.
In addition, CleanCo will also purchase 400MW of renewable energy per year from the MacIntyre Wind Farm owned by ACCIONA. Together, the wind farms will avoid the emissions of nearly 3 million tonnes of carbon dioxide each year.
ACCIONA has also committed to the Queensland Government’s Buy Queensland approach to use a local workforce and suppliers on this $1.96 billion project.
