Mildura Sporting Precinct is about to see the sunny side of its investment, with a new solar system expected to shave up to $19,000 from its annual electricity bill.
The 198 500-watt panels were funded largely through the Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program, which allows local governments to nominate priority projects for funding.
99-kilowatt solar PV system is expected to generate about 15 per cent of the precinct’s electricity consumption.
Supporting electrical infrastructure will allow the precinct to install additional solar in the future.
Mildura Rural City Council has now installed 890 kilowatts of solar PV on council-owned building facilities, putting it on track to reach more than one megawatt of solar PV in 2025.
The council has committed to fully electrifying all its buildings by 2030 and has been purchasing 100 per cent renewable electricity for them since 2021.
