Marinus Link has executed its final Stage 1 major works contract, enabling construction to commence on one of Australia’s most significant energy infrastructure projects.
Marinus Link Pty Ltd (MLPL) has awarded the $994 million (nominal) civils and construction contract to TasVic Greenlink (TVGL), a joint venture between DT Infrastructure and Samsung C&T Corporation.
The contract covers the construction of the Marinus Link converter stations at Heybridge in north-west Tasmania and Hazelwood in Victoria’s Gippsland region, the installation of associated equipment, and land cable civil works spanning around 90 kilometres across Gippsland.
Stephanie McGregor, Chief Executive at MLPL, said the execution of the contract marked the final step in securing the delivery capability and technology required to move into the construction phase.
“We have secured both our cable and converter technology suppliers, our integrated delivery partner, and now our lead contractor for the substantial civils and construction campaign,” Ms McGregor said.
She said local supply chain engagement would be central to the project’s delivery, with strong interest already demonstrated across the regions that will host the infrastructure.
“Recently, we ran our Meet the Contractors events where around 1,000 local businesses attended to explore and compete for supply chain opportunities across Gippsland, Victoria and north-west Tasmania,” Ms McGregor said.
“Partnering with capable local businesses will complete our workforce and ensure the successful delivery of this national infrastructure project.”
The contract execution follows the September announcement of TVGL as the preferred bidder for the Marinus Link ‘Balance of Works’ package, providing increased certainty for regional economies set to benefit from the project.
John Anderson, Chief Executive at DT Infrastructure, said the contract represented a once-in-a-generation opportunity for both regions.
“Today marks a significant moment for DTI, together with our partner Samsung C&T, as we commit to delivering a truly once-in-a-generation project for the regions of north-west Tasmania and Gippsland,” Mr Anderson said.
Scott Choi, Managing Director at Samsung C&T Corporation Australia, said the company was pleased to partner with DTI on a project of national significance.

TVGL is scheduled to commence preparatory works at the Waratah Bay and Heybridge shore crossings in early 2026, subject to final environmental approvals.
Ms McGregor said community engagement would continue ahead of construction activities.
“Our Marinus Link teams, alongside TVGL, will be out and about early next year to provide detailed information about construction activities and expected timelines,” she said.
