Iberdrola powers up Adelaide Airport’s solar future

Iberdrola Australia

Iberdrola Australia has played a key role in expanding Adelaide Airport’s renewable energy capabilities, completing the installation of more than 3800 solar panels on the terminal roof.

The new 2.3 megawatt peak solar system nearly triples the airport’s total solar capacity to 3.5 Megawatt peak — enough to power approximately 1000 homes.

The system is expected to generate around 3282 megawatt-hour of energy annually, supporting Adelaide Airport’s goal of reducing carbon emissions.

The airport became the first major airport in Australia to achieve carbon neutrality in December 2024 and has cut its emissions by nearly 90 per cent since 2018.

Iberdrola Australia noted that the project combines both behind-the-meter and in-front-of-the-meter renewable energy solutions, helping the airport lower its power costs while advancing its sustainability objectives.
