Australia’s residential energy market is entering a new phase, driven not only by continued rooftop solar adoption but also by new policy initiatives that are increasing the value of home battery storage. For solar installers, these developments are creating new opportunities as homeowners place greater emphasis on energy independence and smarter electricity management.
In New South Wales, the Home Energy Saver program is helping reduce the upfront cost of home energy upgrades. Eligible households can access zero-interest loans of up to AUD $15,000, repayable over 10 years, for solar, battery and other energy-saving improvements. Additional discounts of up to AUD $4000 are also available for eligible households. By lowering financial barriers, the program is expected to encourage more homeowners to consider battery storage alongside rooftop solar.
At the same time, the Solar Sharer Offer, launching from 1 July across New South Wales, South Australia and South East Queensland, encourages eligible households with smart meters to make greater use of free daytime electricity. This is expected to increase interest in storing low-cost energy, improving self-consumption and reducing evening electricity costs.
Together, these initiatives are changing customer conversations. Homeowners are increasingly asking not only how solar can reduce electricity bills, but also how battery storage can maximise energy use and improve overall system performance. As a result, installers are placing greater emphasis on battery integration, system design and technical expertise.
Against this backdrop, SOFAR Solar continues to strengthen its support for the Australian residential market. A recent milestone is the Clean Energy Council listing of the SOFAR ESI 5-12K-T1 residential hybrid inverter, making it ready for deployment across Australian residential projects. The certification provides installers with another compliant solution as demand for residential battery systems continues to grow.
SOFAR Solar will also sponsor and participate in the Smart Energy Council Installer Roadshows across Perth, Townsville, Sydney and Melbourne throughout July and August. Through product demonstrations, technical discussions and face-to-face engagement, installers will have the opportunity to explore the newly Clean Energy Council listed ESI 5-12K-T1, exchange practical knowledge with SOFAR’s technical team and stay up-to-date with developments across Australia’s residential solar and storage sector.
