Neoen has selected the successful contractor that will help to deliver the six-hour, 164 MW (megawatt) / 905 MWh (megawatt-hour) Muchea battery, to be situated north east of Perth in Western Australia.
UGL has been awarded the contract to work on what will be Neoen’s first six-hour long duration storage asset, which will support the region’s energy reliability and transition to renewable technologies.
UGL has been tasked with preparing the site for the installation and connection of 252 Tesla Megapack 2XL units, as well as the design and construction of a 132kV (kilovolt) substation.
This will also include the installation of high-voltage infrastructure, control and switchroom facilities, as well as earthworks and footings. Following installation, UGL will provide testing and commissioning support.
Thus far, UGL has delivered 19 major renewable generation and storage projects across Australia. This includes five flagship big batteries for Neoen: Victorian Big Battery, Western Downs Battery One, Collie Battery One and Two, as well as Western Downs Battery Two which is currently under construction.
Construction work on site for Muchea Battery will commence next month and is expected to finish in 2027.
