ACCIONA Energía has successfully completed commissioning and commenced full commercial operations at the Aldoga Solar Farm, a 480-megawatt peak (MWp) project located around 20 kilometres northwest of Gladstone on Queensland’s central coast.
The milestone marks a significant step in Queensland’s renewable energy transition, with the Aldoga Solar Farm expected to generate clean electricity equivalent to the annual consumption of around 185,000 households. Once fully operational, the project will avoid approximately 934,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions each year. This impact is comparable to removing around 360,000 internal combustion vehicles from the road annually.
Under a 15-year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA), 100 per cent of the solar farm’s output will be supplied to Stanwell Corporation. The agreement will see Stanwell offtake the renewable electricity for sale into the National Electricity Market or retail it directly to commercial and industrial customers, supporting the state’s decarbonisation goals while maintaining energy reliability.
Beyond its clean energy contribution, Aldoga has delivered tangible economic and social benefits for the region. Construction of the solar farm supported around 350 local jobs at peak, with a further 15 permanent roles created for ongoing operations and maintenance. ACCIONA Energía also prioritised local procurement, sourcing up to AUD $150 million in Australian-made goods and services from regional suppliers and businesses.
The project has additionally contributed to local infrastructure and community development, including upgrades to Flynn Road and targeted investment across education, healthcare and cultural initiatives. Workplace volunteering programs were also facilitated as part of the development phase.
Community engagement has been a key feature of the project, with ACCIONA Energía launching a Small Grants Program to support local organisations. Among the recipients was the Parent and Citizens organisation at Yarwun State School, which used grant funding to purchase laptops for Year 5 and 6 students, helping ensure equitable access to digital learning resources.
Complementing this, the company has committed to a Legacy Investment Program focused on larger, multi-year initiatives, including the Calliope Community Hub. The new facility is designed to host health services, social programs and community events, delivering long-term benefits beyond the construction phase of the solar farm.

“Under this Power Purchase Agreement, Stanwell will offtake 100 per cent of the output from the Aldoga Solar Farm. As demand continues to grow across the state, we will continue to deliver affordable, reliable and sustainable energy for all of Queensland,” he said.
The commissioning of Aldoga further strengthens ACCIONA Energía’s position in Australia as a strategic growth market. The company now has almost 2 gigawatts of renewable energy capacity installed or under construction nationwide, spanning wind and solar projects. This includes the 923MW MacIntyre Wind Farm in Queensland, currently being commissioned and set to become one of the largest wind farms in the southern hemisphere.
