Hundreds of thousands of households across Victoria have slashed energy bills, cut emissions and taken control of their energy use through Solar Victoria.
Through Solar Victoria rebates and interest‑free loans, more than 451,000 solar panel, hot water and battery systems have been installed across Victoria.
Since launching in 2018, Solar Victoria has supported the installation of more than 451,000 solar, battery and energy-efficient appliance systems, helping households reduce energy bills and emissions while increasing energy independence.
The program has supported the installation of 353,100 rooftop solar systems, 89,400 hot water systems, 21,400 household batteries and 34,900 reverse-cycle air conditioners. Nearly 10,000 zero-emissions vehicles have also received support.
The state’s rooftop solar fleet now exceeds 2.5 gigawatts (GW) of installed capacity. Solar Victoria estimates participating households can save up to $1,000 annually by consuming more of their own solar generation.
Demand for electrification upgrades continues to grow. Hot water rebates remain one of the fastest-growing categories, with around 2,000 approved applications for locally manufactured systems. Households switching from gas to heat-pump hot water systems can save up to $400 per year, with an additional 27,000 rebates to be made available in 2026–27.
Strong uptake is being recorded across Melbourne’s growth corridors. In Tarneit, more than 10,000 solar installations had been completed by April 2026, with around 60 per cent of households now benefiting from rooftop solar.
Solar Victoria estimates the program has delivered more than $945 million in household savings and avoided nearly 4.9 million tonnes of carbon emissions since 2018.
