The 750 MW coal-fired Kogan Creek Power Station, located in Chinchilla in southwest Queensland, will soon be home to a 44 MW solar thermal addition representing the largest solar project in the Southern Hemisphere and the world’s largest solar integration with a coal-fired power station.

The project’s principal contractor, AREVA Solar, have appointed FK Gardner and Sons Group (FKG) to carry out site preparation works, following the completion of surveys by an environmental ecologist and assessment by cultural heritage representatives.

Queensland Energy Minister Stephen Robertson said: “FKG will soon commence construction of 14 pads for the solar steam generators. Each pad is approximately 500 metres long and a 5 metre wide perimeter road will be constructed around the pads for operation and maintenance vehicles.”

“FKG will also be providing embedments and supports for the solar towers and will undertake drainage works,” continued Mr Robertson.
