Wind power now accounts for 1.8 per cent of the total energy provided for mainstream consumption in America, a report by the American Wind Energy Association has found.
In 2009 American Wind farms generated 39 per cent of energy produced by all renewable technologies, the report further stated.
Current American wind power capacity is over 35,000 MW making it the largest wind energy producer in the world.
This capacity it set to increase with the wind farms installed in 2009 alone producing 10,000 MW.
To accommodate this rapid growth, there now exist nine wind turbine manufacturing plants in the United States.
