The Ecolibrium Mixed Waste Treatment Facility in southwest Sydney is the first wet separation facility for municipal waste in Australia. It can process 90,000 tonnes a year of municipal waste, separating valuable recyclable materials that would otherwise have gone to landfill and generating enough energy to power its own operations and up to 1,700 homes.

The plant, designed and built by WSN Environmental Solutions with the technical assistance of international professional and technical consultants GHD, is a scaled up version of an existing plant operated by technology provider Arrow Ecology in Tel Aviv. It is the first plant of its type to be built outside of Israel.

The Ecolibrium Facility uses water-based material separation technologies to recover recyclable materials from the municipal waste stream and anaerobic digestion to produce biogas, suitable for electricity generation.
