Brisbane-based waste-to-energy company Landfill Gas Industries has been given the go-ahead by the Brisbane City Council to construct a waste energy generation facility to be run in conjunction with Diamond Energy.
The facility will be established at Willawong, approximately 17 km from the Brisbane central business district.
The site at Willawong is a remediated landfill site that closed in the 1990s. It is already equipped with an underground well and a piped gas harvesting system that is designed to release methane gas created by the landfill.
The tender to operate the site has been granted for a period of ten years. As yet, no details pertaining to a timeline for construction and commissioning are publically available.
