The EcoGen 2010 conference is set to be the clean energy event of the year, bringing together the highest levels of the clean energy industry, locally and internationally.

The EcoGen 2010 conference will be held from 5-8 September at the Sydney Convention and Exhibition Centre.

Mr Rae will be speaking between 8:20–9:30am on Day One of EcoGen 2010, September 6, and again between 8:20–9:30am on Day Three, September 8.

Mr Rae is Senior Vice President of the World Wind Energy Association and Chairman of the International Renewable Energy Alliance (REN Alliance) which is the world alliance of the major world renewable energy associations (bioenergy, hydro, wind, solar and geothermal). He is on the Board of several of the other Alliance partners.

He is also Vice Chairman of REN21 and a member of the International Jury of the Energy Globe Sustainablilty Awards.

With experience spanning numerous renewable associations and companies around the world, Mr Rae has a unique vantage point from which to understand Australia’s position within the global clean energy context. For Mr Rae, one of the major roles of leaders in the clean energy sector is to educate; centring upon the need to recognise the importance of sustainability.

“We (affluent countries) have got the funds to be able to provide for the future; we ought to be doing it.

“We need education [to send a message] that it’s about sustainability; it’s not about climate change. Climate change is one aspect. If we cured climate change tomorrow, we still have to come to terms with sustainability.”

He was an industry delegate to the International Renewable Energy Conference in Bonn in 2004 and was a member of the United Nations Expert Group as a Lead Reviewer and keynote speaker for the Beijing International Renewable Energy Conference in 2005. He participated in the 2008 Washington Conference and is a member of the group organising the 2010 Delhi Conference.

Mr Rae has attended the COP meetings from 2000 to 2007. He participated in the 2009 Copenhagen Conference where he chaired a joint side event with the International Renewable Energy Alliance (REN Alliance) and the newly formed International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA).

From 1993 to 2004 he was Chairman of Hydro Tasmania which is Australia’s largest renewable energy generator and led the 100 year old hydro corporation expansion into the wind.

From 1968 till 1986 he was a Senator and for six and a half years a Senior Shadow Minister.

In 1999 Mr Rae was made an Officer in the Order of Australia for services to business and industry.
