SilexSolar, Australia’s sole solar PV manufacturer has suspended manufacturing operations at its Sydney plant.
The plant has been placed in ‘care and maintenance’ mode until its future direction can be determined.
This news follows an announcement in August 2011, which saw SilexSolar restructure its PV panel manufacturing business, including a major cost reduction program and the decision to manufacture panels using cells imported from an overseas third-party.
Silex, the parent company of SilexSolar, is still involved in technology manufacturing under the subsidiaries Solar Systems and Translucent.
