Under the National Strategy on Energy Efficiency, federal, state and territory governments have committed to developing a framework that works towards consistent approaches in how buildings are assessed and rated for energy efficiency and sets a pathway for increasing minimum energy performance standards for new buildings over time.

The Federal Department of Climate Change and Energy Efficiency, on behalf of the Energy Efficiency Working Group of the Select Council on Climate Change, has released a draft framework which proposes initiatives for public comment.

Comments are invited until 6 July 2012, and consultation forums will be held in Australian capital cities throughout May and June 2012.
