Orchestrated by Beyond Zero Emissions, a not-for-profit environment advocacy organisation, the letter calls for public investment in large-scale renewable energy projects and climate-friendly infrastructure.

Beyond Zero Emissions Executive Director Matthew Wright has highlighted the disparity between government spending on renewable energy incentives and the Broadband internet rollout, with the latter receiving 28 times more public money.

Mr Wright said “Public investment in sustainable infrastructure should match the investment in the National broadband Network at a bare minimum.”

Some of the organisations and individuals that signed the letter include The Australian Solar Energy Society, The Alternative Technology Association, The Australia Institute, Guy Pearse - Research Fellow at the Global Change Institute, and Leading climate scientist Professor David Karoly.
