Queensland University of Technology researchers have been awarded a $1.65 million Queensland Government grant to accelerate the state’s use of clean energy.
Queensland University of Technology electrical engineering professor Gerard Ledwich and architecture professor Robin Drogemuller received the National and International Research Alliances Program grant to develop software to co-ordinate electricity consumption during peak periods and systems to increase renewable energy use.
"We are creating a better planning tool for the [energy] distribution system and customer demand management and we'll also look at what incentives would encourage customers to participate in a co-ordinated system," Professor Ledwich said.
"We're looking at the best way to progress towards the 2020 renewable targets and use renewable energy, we'll work on what technology is going to be required and how to use it," he said.
Queensland's energy target is to source 20 per cent of electricity from renewable sources by 2020.
