In October 2010 a planning permit was issued by the Victorian Minister for Planning for the wind farm, comprising 55 turbines and to be located at a site 5 km south of Mortlake.
Andrew Thomson, ACCIONA Energy’s Director of Development, said: “We are pleased to be proceeding with the next stages in the development of the Mortlake South Wind Farm. Over the next 12 months, ACCIONA Energy will prepare a Development Plan for the Mortlake South Wind Farm as required under the planning permit.”
According to Mr Thomson, “The new wind farm rules introduced by the Victorian Government in March 2011 do not apply to the Mortlake South Wind Farm which was approved in 2010”.
The Mortlake South Wind Farm will generate power for up to 41,000 homes.
