When fully operational at the end of 2009, the 62-turbine West Wind development will have a capacity of 142 MW and will power the equivalent of 70,000 average New Zealand homes.

“The [New Zealand] renewables target is very challenging, but we would like to support it. I would be happy if some other countries could go the same way at the same speed as New Zealand has,” said Siemens Global CEO of Renewable Energy Division Dr René Umlauft.

Seimens supplied the wind turbines for the West Wind project.
