Ergon Energy is developing the Magnetic Island Solar Suburb initiative, which is helping to show residents, businesses and property owners how solar power, smart meters, energy efficiency and new electricity pricing options can meet energy needs while minimising harm to the environment. It is part of the Townsville Queensland Solar City project.

To be held in Townsville from 29 September - 2 October 2009, the conference will bring together professionals from all energy-related sectors, from both Australia and overseas, to meet and exchange new ideas, and discuss the latest developments in the area of clean energy technologies.

Conference speakers include Director of the Centre for Sustainable Energy Systems Australian National University Professor Andrew Blakers, Queensland Minister for Climate Change and Sustainability Kate Jones, Federal Shadow Minister for Climate Change Greg Hunt, and Deputy Leader of the Australian Greens Senator Christine Milne.

Technical presentations will feature the latest work by scientists and engineers from academia, industry, and government all over the world including Australia, USA, Germany, Iran, Japan, China, Brunei, Nigeria, Malaysia, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Egypt, and Nepal.

The Solar09 conference will be hosted by James Cook University, and will be a major opportunity for researchers in the subjects related to renewable energy sustainability and application to mix with other scientists, and industrialists.
