Link between electricity grid and renewable energy systems

Tritium, an Queensland company that designs and supplies powertrain systems for electric cars, has been granted $158,600 by the Queensland State Government to develop a universal power controller that will link the electricity grid to renewable energy systems.
Acting Climate Change and Sustainability Minister Annastacia Palaszczuk said that Tritium was sharing in more than $750,000 handed out to five companies in the latest round of the Queensland Sustainable Energy Innovation Fund (QSEIF).
Ms Palaszczuk said that the technology will enable a power controller to charge batteries for electric vehicles and also feed power back into the grid to meet peak demand loads.
“This controller could be especially valuable in remote areas, where a renewable power source could be used to charge electric vehicles,” Ms Palaszczuk said.
Applications for the next round of funding of up to $200,000 from the QSTEIF are now open.
