Mr Riddell will present on solar thermal power generation and thermal storage, with a particular focus on its viability as a renewable alternative to traditional remote power systems.

He will make the case for an approach centred on the use of micro-CSP combined with thermal energy storage to replace both electricity generation produced by a combination of solar photovoltaic or wind energy and diesel.

Mr Riddell has worked on remote water supply and renewable energy projects in 71 countries over the last 20 years. He began designing Organic Rankine Cycle turbines and solar thermal collector technology in 1998, as well as a unique vertical axis urban wind generator.

Over the last twelve years, these have all become commercial products, with the recent release of both SORC (Supercritical Organic Rankine Cycle) systems and Compact Linear Fresnel reflector collectors for power generation up to 20 MWe.
