Announcing the ANU funding, Minister for the Environment Peter Garrett said “The funding will allow the ANU to install photovoltaic solar panels and trial a solar split air conditioning system – a technological innovation developed by ANU researchers.”

Other projects that have received funding include the Launceston City Council’s Greening Inveresk Precinct project, which will involve energy efficiency measures such as lighting and air conditioning upgrades; and the Sydney Harbour Federation Trust, which will use the $861,500 in funding to construct two solar energy farms and implement water saving systems. For a full list of the projects that have been awarded funding visit the Federal Government’s Green Precincts website.

Expressions of interest for the Green Precincts Fund closed in November 2008. Applications are no longer being accepted and the Government currently has no plans for future funding rounds under this program.
