Following a meeting with ministers from the G8, G5, EU, Brazil, China, Egypt, India, Korea, Mexico, Saudi Arabia and South Africa – convened to discuss energy strategies in response to the climate change challenge in Rome in May – the ministers issued a joint statement outlining their commitment to clean energy and the need for global collaboration.

Other investment areas mentioned in the document include the refurbishment of power generating facilities and cogeneration, sustainable mobility and low-emission transport vehicles, advancing demonstration of carbon capture and storage, and for those interested, nuclear power.

The ministers also supported the operational launch of the International Partnership of Energy Efficiency Cooperation that took place at the same meeting. The World Bioenergy Association (WBA) has welcomed the statement’s recognition of bioenergy as an area of investment.

President of WBA Kent Nyström said that the bioenergy industry is delighted to receive this recognition and support.
