The Energy Network Association (ENA) has welcomed the Federal Government’s announcement of the National Energy Efficiency Initiative in the 2009-10 budget that will help build smarter, more efficient energy distribution networks.
As part of the initiative, the Government has said that work will begin immediately to identify opportunities to demonstrate smart grid networking. Subject to an implementation study, the demonstration project then hopes to lead to an integrated system of renewable energy, smart grid and smart meter technology and infrastructure in one Australian city, town or region.
The ENA also highlighted its support for the plan to examine links between the National Broadband Network and the Ministerial Council on Energy’s National Stakeholder Steering Committee on smart meters.
“We look forward to the Government’s further involvement in joining with ENA and energy network companies to see the smart network initiative become a reality,” ENA CEO Andrew Blyth said.
