German solar tracking system manufacturer DEGERenergie has reported strong growth in worldwide demand for its Maximum Light Detection (MLD) technology, thanks to a successful first half of 2011 and reaching the company milestone of installing 45,000 systems in over 40 countries.

DEGERenergie manufactures the world’s largest product range of single and dual-axis solar tracking systems using MLD technology, which makes it possible to maximise the yield of solar power plants using an ‘intelligent’ control design.

Used in conjunction with the DEGERconeccter, solar modules are always aligned according to the brightest position in the sky with the highest energy yield. In this way, the overall energy yield of solar power plants with MLD tracking is up to 45 per cent higher than that of rigid systems, and this difference is even more pronounced for peaks.

DEGERenergie has noted that certain developments on the world market currently strengthening the solar industry – including strong discussion about future energy supply and a shift towards renewable energies, and ever-rising energy prices – have combined, and lead to an increasing interest in solar technology from homeowners, companies, governments, cities and investors.

“Since the beginning of 2011, we have observed an increasing trend towards ‘self-supply’ in Germany; this refers to the combination of MLD tracking with modern storage technologies,” says DEGERenergie Vice President of Sales and Marketing Michael Heck.

“Thanks to this combination, private homes, companies or even entire communities can be independent from the development of energy prices and energy suppliers.

“We are convinced that, in the medium term, this development will be similar in other countries and that this concept will finally be applied worldwide.”
