To be held from 8–10 November, the conference boasts 47 international, national and regional speakers, who will discuss the big energy policy changes ahead and what they mean for businesses, investors, local governments and communities in non-metropolitan areas.

Presentations will discuss how the electricity grid will adapt to these changes; how new energy sources will feed into the grid and be regulated; and how regional communities can reduce their vulnerability to high energy prices in the volatile period ahead. The event expects to attract regional investors, farmers, economic development players, planners and local government councillors.

Jointly presented by the City of Greater Bendigo and the La Trobe University (Bendigo campus), the event is specifically about the energy outlook for non-metropolitan Australia.

Speakers include:

  • Professor Hugh Outhred, lead author of the International Panel on Climate Change’s forthcoming Special Report on Renewable Energy and Climate Change
  • Power engineering specialist Professor Vassilios Agelidis on rising electricity prices and how regional areas can be part of a smart electricity grid
  • Dr David Jones of the Victorian Organic Solar Cell Consortium on printable solar cells
  • Professor Jack Singh from La Trobe University on smart systems for householders and businesses to maximise energy use when energy prices are low.
