To be installed on approximately three hectares on the outskirts of Alice Springs, the system will consist of 3,048 318 watt SunPower mono-crystalline panels.

The project is a joint development between Alice Solar City and SunPower Corporation, and the latter will also be responsible for construction.

The tracking system is expected to cost $6.6 million, with $3.3 million in funding to be supplied by the Australian Government as part of its $94 million Solar Cities program.

Power generated by the system will be purchased by Northern Territory electricity company Power and Water Corporation.
