LG BiFacial panel takes first place at Intersolar

LG Electronics has been awarded an Intersolar Award for its NeON 2 BiFacial solar module, its third win at the event in four years.

The NeONTM 2 BiFacial can harvest light from both sides of the module, with a transparent back sheet allowing light reflected from the surface below the panel to be used.

The potential power generated by the panel would be the equivalent to a conventional panel rated at 380 to 400W power class, LG said.

“This award symbolises LG’s commitment to developing innovative, world-leading solar technologies,” said Markus Lambert, the head of LG Solar Australia, after the award was presented at Intersolar Europe last week in Munich, Germany.

“Having set new standards in the solar industry, LG will continue to lead the global market with its top-of-the-line, high-efficiency solar solutions.”

Energy loss in the panel is minimised using LG Electronics’ Cello Technology, which allows for 12 electrical paths instead of the traditional three to allow electricity to flow more efficiently, the company says.

The modules are effective when installed on skyscraper rooftops and near freeways, as well as above surfaces such as water and other surfaces where light is reflected strongly, it says.

First held in 1991, Intersolar Europe is the world’s largest exhibition for the solar industry. This year, more than a thousand companies from around the world presented innovations and products.

LG first received the award with the Mono X NeON in 2013 and in 2015 for the NeON 2.
